Marblehead Building Contractor Rides PMC Again

July 18, 2011

Dear Friends & Family,

In these challenging times of personal and global upheaval, on social, financial, and ecological levels, our relationship to one another seems more important than ever before.

The events of the world are now instantly available and the difficulties in another country or another state are similar to the ones that we may find ourselves facing. Tornados, earthquakes, financial difficulties, high fuel prices, uncertainty about the future…all of these have touched us in a way that we didn’t experience 50 years ago.  The calling now seems to be to join hands as we move deeper into the 21st century, to stand together as humanity to face the challenges ahead.

There is a challenge in my life that I welcome and embrace every year.  It is the highlight of my year no doubt.  And that is the Pan Mass Challenge.  It is a bicycle ride across MA going from Sturbridge to Provincetown over two days, August 6th-7th.  The event raises money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and specifically the Jimmy Fund for life-saving cancer research and treatment. Over 5000 riders participate and more than 3000 volunteer.

The outpouring of love and support over these two days in pure inspiration, from the police who stand at the intersections ensuring safe passage, to the cancer survivors along the route who cheer the riders on and say “thank you”.  It is incredibly moving to feel the gratitude and encouragement as we pedal towards Provincetown.

I have agreed to personally raise at least $5000 to support this fantastic cause. PMC’s goal is to raise $34 million this year.   I am asking for your help to ensure we meet these goals.  In doing so, I acknowledge the many other financial pulls you may have in your life.  Any amount of a donation is most graciously accepted.

Closer by the mile

The easiest way to make a donation is to go to www.pmc.org. At the top of the screen, type in my name: James Gilroy (not Jamie Gilroy). Click on: Donate To My Ride button. You can also mail a check to me made out to “PMC” and send it to PO Box 261, Marblehead, MA 01945.

As we face these challenging times together, we are called to remember what’s truly important in life: our friends, family, kindness, compassion, good health. Thank you in advance for helping overcome a challenge that touches all of our lives.

All the best, Jamie & Meghan Gilroy
