The Appeal

Will You Support A Worthy Cause with Us?

Dear Family, House Wright Clients, and Friends,

This year we have made a commitment to give back by supporting causes we believe in. By combining Jamie’s love of biking with the worthy cause of cancer research and care, we decided to participate in the Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC)… What’s that? Nothing less than a 2-day 192-mile bike ride across the eastern portion of Massachusetts on August 2-3 to raise money for children suffering from this debilitating disease.

We are writing this letter to appeal to your compassion and generosity and to ask you to please donate to the PMC-Jimmy Fund. This money is urgently needed for cancer care and research. Cancer continues to affect the lives of millions of people. Cancer has cut short many lives of people we know and love – in the past 2 years Meghan’s Great Aunt Marion and her Uncle Larry succumbed to it – and we are sure that it’s touched someone you know and love as well. Jamie’s close friend Eric Martin passed away last September at the very young age of 50. Jamie will ride the PMC in honor of these family and friends. It is our dream that one day soon this disease will no longer be terminal for anyone.

In order to participate, Jamie must raise at least $4,000 by August. He intends to surpass that amount but can only do so with your support. Last year, the PMC raised a total of $33 million. We hope that you will help us meet our personal goal. Jamie will do the training and the hard work of riding. All we need from you is a check or credit card. Consider donating the cost of a nice dinner out. If you can dedicate $25 or $50 to help find a cure, you will be in good company. Of course more is welcome and any donation will be appreciated.

This year Jamie will carry the names of cancer patients, survivors, and those claimed by the disease that you request in his jersey pocket for all 192 miles. If you would like to dedicate your donation to someone close to you or a dear friend, please include his or her name in a note or in the memo of your check. We will add the names on Jamie’s list in hopes that the power of this united effort will bring comfort to those in need.

Your tax-deductible check can be made payable to PMC/Jimmy Fund and mailed to us at PO Box 261, Marblehead, MA 01945. You can also donate online by visiting http://www.pmc.org/egifts/ and entering “Gilroy” as the rider’s last name.

Thank you in advance, for joining the fight!

Meghan & Jamie Gilroy

Many Thanks!

Dear Family, House Wright Clients, and Friends,

Thank you so much for sponsoring “Team Gilroy” in the Pan-Mass Challenge. Your contribution helped us to surpass our personal fundraising goal for this worthy cause. Your donation also contributed to the $27,600,000 raised to date from over 211,000 PMC sponsors by over 5,000 riders. More importantly, you helped fund much needed research and care for a disease that has touched the lives of all of us.

Jamie pedaled hard from Sturbridge to Provincetown in honor – and in memory – of the 21 friends and family who have battled cancer. He was joined by our dear friend Frank Golba from Pittsburgh. A whole caravan rode in support of them – Meghan (logistical coordinator & cheerleader), Joyce (Bodhi’s Granny, i.e. playmate in the car, restaurants, and hotels), Nick (our 17 year old with license and muscles a.k.a. the chauffeur and bellhop), and Bodhi (the bullhorn, “bike!” “car!” “truck!” “Da-Da!”). Not to mention the 2 bikes, crib, stroller, and many, many bags of luggage.

It was awe-inspiring to see the number of riders, volunteers, family, and staff who worked together to pull of this massive event. We were particularly touched to round the bend in Brewster and see the “Go Team Gilroy! Marblehead” sign at the end of our friends Kim, Dan & Alexander’s driveway. It took Jamie a minute to realize that he was “Team” Gilroy… and it inspired him to gather a team of friends to ride with him in 2009. (Sign up now!) Nick is already on board and has begun his training. We hope you will join us again as well, whether it’s by writing a check or hopping in the saddle.

We couldn’t have done this event without your support. We would also like to thank our friends and neighbors who supplied the roof racks, bike racks, luggage carriers, strollers, and coolers to make our ride more comfortable.

Thank you all again for joining the fight!

Meghan & Jamie Gilroy
